Covid Friendly Christmas Mini Sessions
Offering Christmas Mini Sessions can be a difficult proposition during a pandemic. However, with the right compositing skills, you can create eye-catching images that capture the magic of the holidays. But it does require proper instruction from the photographic artist to pull off successful building blocks. In this particular series of composites, it was clear where the direction of light was falling in the scene. (For information on where I purchased the backgrounds, scroll to the end of the post). I instructed the parent of this darling child to place her near a window camera right. Since I shared the before image with her, she was able to recreate the scene using simple props. Take a look......
With such a simple execution, I had her send me several cell phone images. While not perfect, the the increasing quality of smart phone images makes it possible to composite them into the main scene. I used the mixer brush to smooth away the grain in the child's face, and painted additional bits of hair around her head. I enhanced the highlights using a curves adjustment layer on the rim of her head. Probably the trickiest thing was to make sure all the shadows matched correctly. Since I saved the shadow portion of the original image as part of the selection, it was not too difficult.
Enjoy the final images! They were delightful to create!
Thanks for taking taking a moment in your busy day to enjoy the post. I found the backgrounds after purchasing a pro membership with Summerana. But there are many places to find digital backgrounds from which to build your images! If you are too busy, or simply intimidated with the thought of creating a composite on your own, feel free to contact me.
